Howard Lockwood
Howard is an experienced senior manager, trainer, executive coach and mentor. He has had experience of working in the private sector.
During his 29 years in the Probation Service he worked as a probation officer and was promoted to various management roles. He was Regional Staff Development Officer in the Midland Region and gained an exceptional reputation across the country as a trainer and conference organiser. He was appointed chief executive of the multi-cultural North East London Probation Service in 1992 and held that post for nine years. In 1998/9 he was national chair of the Association of Chief Officers of Probation.
An experienced and competent mentor, Howard has mentored Chief Officers of Probation as well as leaders in other public sector organisations. He has utilised his skills as a mentor whilst working on leadership development with managers and chief executives in the public sector. His wealth of experience and expertise makes him ideally placed to operate with a degree of objectivity and - at the same time - be supportive, empathic and challenging to those with the responsibility of leading their organisation. Howard has always taken a keen interest in diversity and ensures race and gender issues are given top priority in management, training and practice.
Howard has extensive private/ public sector experience and uses his considerable energy and enthusiasm to assist senior managers to bring about major quality improvements and enable them to lead excellent organisations. He has specialised in bringing the European Excellence Model to the public sector and is a qualified external assessor. In addition Howard is currently working with a large private sector organisation as a criminal justice advisor.
